An LTE data terminal carries data from implanted pacemakers and defibrillators over cellular networks, helping clinicians monitor remotely and act in time.
Highly reliable remote data transmission for pacemakers
In Abbott's Merlin@home™ remote monitoring system, implanted pacemakers and ICDs talk to the Merlin@home™ gateway at home every day over RF telemetry; the MF833V data card plugged into the gateway carries the data over 4G to Merlin.net™ and the clinic. No patient action is needed. Deployed since 2017 in more than 60 countries and regions, with very stable field feedback.

Of more than 1.3 million units, only a few dozen have been reported faulty: under 0.01%. In remote monitoring of Abbott implanted cardiac devices, this link has served about one million patients. An observational study of more than 260,000 US patients by St. Jude Medical (now Abbott) found that patients highly adherent to remote monitoring had a 58% lower risk of death than non-users, and about 2.4 times the likelihood of survival.
