How the score works

Compatibility

For each network, every 4G band in use is compared with the device: coverage-layer bands (whole band below 1 GHz) weigh 2, capacity bands weigh 1. A device with the band or a superset of it scores in full; a device with only a subset (the network uses B66, the device has B4) scores half.

Score = Σ(weight × credit) ÷ Σ weight

Good: score ≥ 60%%, at least one coverage band, and none of the operator’s main bands missing. Limited: some common bands, but not all of the above. Not usable: no common band. Carrier-aggregation-only downlink bands, unlicensed LAA bands and bands from a single community source are shown but not scored.

5G is judged separately: an ordinary 5G device needs matching bands; a RedCap device also needs the operator’s commercial 5G SA with RedCap.

For Cat-M1 and NB-IoT devices, the operator must run the technology (GSMA list, with outdated entries corrected), and the device must share an LTE band: a common coverage band is good, capacity bands only are limited. Operators missing from the list are unconfirmed; shut-down networks are not usable.

Evidence grades

  • A Regulator, standards body or operator
  • B Industry body (GSMA, GSA) or trade press
  • C Community compilation; scored only when two agree

When sources disagree

We don’t pick one and pretend to be precise: we show the conflict and cite both sides, as with Band 22’s frequencies or the end of 3G in Korea. Every page lists its sources at the bottom.
